Sol LeWitt. A tribute
American artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007) participated in Europe’s first ever Minimal Art exhibition, held at the Gemeentemuseum in 1968. Two years later, the Gemeentemuseum gave him his first museum solo – the launch pad for his international career. The cordial relationship that resulted enabled the museum to add many works by LeWitt to its collection. These include the five geometrical shapes displayed on the exterior of the GEM/Museum of Photography building. In 2017 it will be 10 years since Sol LeWitt’s death: time for a special tribute show including work by leading figures on the international art scene: Esther Tielemans, Rana Begum, Jose Dávila and Susan Hefuna.
